Windows XP loading problem

The program loads normal to the blue windows screen but there's no account or password entry to continue from. I'm not sure how long this unit has been sitting not more than a few months anyway and they were using up till he bought the new one, he needed faster system and better video card for games.

Just got the old gateway it has XP home on it that father installed from original Millennium OS a few yrs ago.

1/20 gig hd, 1 floppy, 1 CDrom, a 64 mb Nvidia card, and I think it may be an analog fax modumb thing. The socket won't take an Ethernet plug but I know they've been connected to Comcast HS Int. for yrs. so I'm stumped on that one too

I tried safe mode access from F8 same results. I can't figure out how to get to setup, tapping delete and or any of the other F keys at start up don't work.

Any ideas, I thought maybe if I could get to setup I could change to DCrom and ask them for there XP CD and try a repair.

I tried putting my daughters XP C drive in instead and all that came up was an error message saying XP failed to start and suggested starting from last known good start. but it kept cycling back to the same error message so I put the 20 gig hd back in.
