Bug
A couple days ago I got an email with an attachment that had a .doc suffix. Thinking it was in fact a document, I opened it. I was the "Badtrans.B" virus.
While it didn't do much to mess up my pc, it did start sending itself as an attachment to everyone I sent an email to, even websites I placed online orders to.
Now, I know all of you never open files that you don't recognise, or open mail from anyone you don't know, but in case you fall prey to this I will explain what to do. The bug writes two files in the Window/System folder, called: kdll.dll and Kernel32.exe. These files cannot be innoculated, quarrantined or deleted from Windows...they must be renamed in dos first. After doing this they can be deleted in Windows. This must be a fairly new bug, when I first ran Norton Antivirus it didn't find it. I downloaded the latest virus definitions, ran the program again and it found it.
I think this came from a guy that sold DVD ripping software to me. I got the letter shortly after I wrote and told him his sw was bunk and didn't do what he claimed it would. I threatened to have the charge removed from my Visa...I think he got pi**ed and sent the mail as some sort of revenge. I should know better....hope no one falls prey to this...if so, I hope this helps.
