Acronis problem

HI Gang....WOW I like the new look, congrats to the people that brought this about.

Now my problem, and yes I am still fooling around with XP, not yet changed over to Win 7 but I will soon. Now meantime I want to clone this HD with a good copy of XP, and all the stuff that goes with it. The HD that I want to clone is running good and smooth. I have done this with Acronis in the past, and the whole thing went smooth.

This time I am getting this message after the program wants to lock my "C" drive and reboot.

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt, \system32\ntoskrnl. Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

Is there a simple way of doing this.? I have done some reading on it and it really involves a lot of steps, which I am not against doing but always open to easier ways of doing things like this. I did a reinstall/repair of the drive I want to clone and did all the SP 2 and 3 stuff, and all the up dates. I thought this file was installed with the repair or one of the SP's

Do *NOT* clone from in Windows - use the bootable CD or rescue media! Haven't we been through this before?

WHOA, sounds like some one got up on the wrong side of the bed.

I thought that was what I was doing when it reboots I thought that is when it starts up with out Windows. GGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEE sorry.

Sorry about that - I wasn't meaning to jump down your throat. However, I think I recall a lengthy discussion with you previously about how to clone with Acronis.

The recommended way to clone is to boot with the Acronis program CD - or if you bought a downloaded program, make the rescue media and boot with that. You only clone by running the program in Windows when those methods do not work.

Hey no problem, if I deserve it I deserve it. Sorry just had the wrong idea there, and you did explain that to me before. What was happening gave me the idea it was doing what you explained to me. My mistake.
