Windows Update: Hotfixes Failing

All,

I have a system that I recently reformatted and installed a fresh copy of windows XP 64 Service Pack 2. When I try to use Windows Update to get all of the "hotfixes," about 50% of them failed and will not install with repeat attempts. Installing .NET framework also fails. The error code returns nothing in the Microsoft database.

Basically, I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and successfully corrected it?

I am also having a problem getting the onboard RealTek sound card to work- maybe the problem is loosely related? I downloaded and installed the driver from the MSI website for my motherboard, but even though it shows up in device manager with correct drivers, sound isn't working and all applications requiring sound return errors. There are also about 6 "unkown devices" in device manager and I don't really know what they are. Only one is named: PCI bridge.

As you can see I'm in poor shape. Any help is appreciated.

The Spork.

You need to install ALL the drivers on that page except the RAID drivers, starting with the ATI System Drivers then the AMDAway driver. XP 64 can be a driver nightmare.

Agreed, 64 is a pain. I'll try that this evening.

I tried installing everything in sequence last night and nothing I tried would install without errors except the sound driver, but of course sound still isn't working. Tonight I am going to try reinstalling windows to verify that this install wasn't somehow corrupt.
