why cup at 100% - help
BRAND new install. windows xp professional. older dell inspiron machines. safe mode - FINE. regular mode - 100% cpu. Task manager doesn't seem to be helping me at all. Wish I had vista's resource monitor tab that it's task manager. It would make my life a whole lot easier. I don't believe this is a virus. This is a brand new install after a delete, repartition and reformat of the harddrive. Not running anything. just windows and internet explorer.

Why doesn't task manager help? What process or processes are using high CPU percentages?

I didn't realize not all the microsoft updates aka sp3 and others were not on the system yet. plus it's inspiron 1000 so it's older and all it takes is internet explorer or firefox or avg to take up cpu time. i think it's ok for now. although i have a dell latitidue d620 that does that and when it does I can't do anything about it other than reboot and I can't figure out what the heck the problem is (same issue was reported here just different computer). I'll have to wait for it happen again.
