Ridiculous Black Screen Problem

Hey guys,

I'm having a TON of problems with my Dell 8400. I'm having the Black Screen problem for one. I cannot boot the Utility Partition. I was able to load Ultimate Boot CD but I do not know what I have already installed w/it and really idk what I do with it. I for awhile was able to press F8 at startup and I would go to the Safe Mode Selection screen. When I would go through the options to start up Safe Mode, it would boot until isapnp.sys where it would stop. Idk what to do now, because I cant even get to the Safe Mode Screen anymore.

I need a lot of help, my family needs this computer to function soon!

Thanks, Alex.

Boot it with your Dell Resource CD (may also be called Drivers and Utilities) and run diagnostics from that.

Boot it with the UBCD and you can use that to run ram and hard drive diagnostics. I recommend Memtest86+, and use the hard drive diags from the appropriate manufacturer (WD, Seagate, Hitachi, Samsung).

Dimension 8400

stlcardinals527,

The first diagnostic feature uses the diagnostic LED quad pack on the rear of the system to relay information about the health of the hardware. The 4 LEDs illuminates in two different colors. This allows for different patterns to give users clues as to what system is doing. Post what the LED's pattern is so that I can tell what the problem may be and give you information to resolve your issue. You can also press F12 and choose IDE Drive Diagnostics from the menu. Information will be displayed on the screen about each drive along with a current status.

Thanks,
Dell-Jesse-L
