IE6 and Dialup connection in XP?#?#?#

I recently installed XP in a dual boot config with Win98SE on my machine. Each has a dedicated 15 Gb hdd. I RAN a Ethernet network using Client for Microsoft Networks using NetBeui protocol. TCP/IP service was bound only to my network adapter, 3Com 10/100 TX Nics connected to 2 other household PC's through a 5Port LinkSys hub. When I setup my internet connection and launched my IE6 all went smoothly...Dialup connection launched and connected. I noticed when I closed IE6, though, that I had to right click connection icon in the systray to close connection. Not too big a deal, although I liked the quick popup "stay connected/disconnect" option of Win98 and IE5, but no big deal #2 (see previous "Not too big a deal"). Sometime later, I installed the Network setup on the other two PC's and ran the "Setup a home or small office network" app. Well I could see all the workgroup and their resources, although in an unfamiliar gui sort of way. My question revolves around IE6 and Outlook Express. I don't seem to be able to launch Outlook Express independently of IE6 from the Start menu and have Dialup connection launch. Does anybody know why? I can only succesfully do this by viewing network connections and "manually" connecting to my ISP prior to opening Outlook Express. Similar experience? All replys are appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem. I've just installed XP and am having trouble with the dialup connections. My ISP always made a dialup connection which I used as a default in IE - and I pointed my Norton Live Update to that connection. In XP it seems to make a connection as it needs one - then deletes it. I copied the connection to another while It was there - but it won't function.

My connection seems to maintain a very long password (not mine) and even when I click on IE and the prompt comes up it tells me my password and/or user profile is not correct. When I go back into the properties the password is long again.

I know it's correct because I can get in thru the software.

Also I need this for work (going through Citrix ICA Client) and can't get any dialups to work. Dell and my ISP tell me simply to go through my ISP software but I need these connections.

I suppose I'm babbling, but I'm getting frustrated and need to get this resolved. It sounds similar to the problem you're having. I've been thru MS knowledge base and created connections just as they say - to no avail.

I'll let you know if I find anything.
