ibm thinkpad mouse and keyboard problem

I went in to the bios trying to fix a screen resolution problem, and when I was finished, and rebooted normally the mouse and keyboard stopped working. I can't get past the login screen. I went back into the bios and made sure the keyboard and mouse are enabled. This laptop has windows 2000 professional on it. OH! the configuration say's the driver is missing. How did that happen? Please help if you can, Thanks

Go to the IBM website and download the drivers and install.

Are the mouse and keyboard External or built into the laptop?

If they are external - are they PS2 or USB?

If they are USB go back into the BIOS and see if there is an option to Enable Legacy USB devices.

The mouse and keyboard are built in. I checked the Bios and the only option for the mouse and keyboard are enable or disable or auto if using an external mouse. I am really up the creek...

Yes, I tried safe mode and still no access with keyboard or mouse to enter the desktop. What else can I try?

What is the model number?

Have you checked for malware? You could try and run a scan from the cd rom using Microsoft Security Essentials (providing cd rom is first boot device). or get your hands on a live linux cd to validate a BIOS issue.

Might consider hooking up an externals mouse and keyboard and see if they work.

Thanks everybody for your input. I was able to download mouse and keyboard drivers off the web and then download to my thinkpad on my cd/rom. I did a recovery and I am back in business!
