Unbale to load OS
Hey everyone i have not been around for a while since i built a new computer. Any way my sister brought me a dell demension 2350 computer that was bogged down, and wanted a clean restore. No problem did it for her 4 years ago. Anyway I opened it up, and found a broken heat shield mount, so i replaced that, but now the os windows xp will not reinstall. Everytime i try to load it, it gets stuck at 34 minutes and will not do anything else. I have tried countless times, this has never happened to me before when i worked on it, so im really lost. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
Oh by the way i even followed this link to see if there was something i was missing. The pc has a pentium 4 processor in it. http://support.dell.com/support/topi...&isLegacy=true Last edited by brokenwing; 02-12-2012 at 11:06 PM. Reason: missing information |

Have you tried pressing Ctrl+F11 on startup and doing a full recovery?

Yes CTRL+F11 does nothing. I shut down and started the process over i posted, and again stuck at 34 minutes. I can try the f11 trick one more time, but i do not believe that works on this computer. GLC from what i understand that only works for computers that are 2004 or newer.

That's correct.
Does F12 work? You can run diagnostics. If not, boot with the Dell Resource CD, it has diags. |

Well GLC i will try to run the f12 diagnostics. I found something interesting though. If I remove the usb mouse, it no longer gets stuck, but there is a problem, during the install process, i lose the keyboard, and the mouse is not hooked up so im stuck again. I have reinstalled the os in a handful of computers, and have never had one that is this difficult, let me keep trying.

Are the mouse and keyboard USB or PS2?

It's very possible the BIOS would have that option... If using a USB keyboard and mouse the "legacy" should be enabled... Or he could try PS2 devices if the pc has the plugs.

I have seen Dells where a USB keyboard must be plugged into a specific USB port for it to work. My sister had a Dimension 8100 that was like that.

Unable to update Win Xp
Well I finally got the computer cleaned up and the drivers reinstalled but the internet will not work, and I can not do the windows updates on a Dell Demension 2350. Its says I have service pack one installed, but then when i click on windows update it says
You may be unable to access the Windows Update website from Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 if those versions of Windows are not updated to the latest Service Pack Now I try to install the updates, but it says this is for a It and not a single computer. Im so confused again. I never had this problem before. Is it due to the fact windows xp is outdated. |

Are you getting any internet access?
Is your OS validated or not?

Did you install the Intel chipset driver first, THEN the Ethernet driver?
Download XP SP3 with another computer, then use a thumb drive to install it. Download: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details |

Threads merged to help continuity.
I still think you may have some flaky hardware. You NEED to run diagnostics. |

Please refer to my previous post.
Press F12 on startup, if that doesn't work, boot with the Dell Resource CD that came with the computer (any modern Dell Resource CD should work). If you don't have one, you can download the diagnostics from Dell. |

Well everything is loaded on the computer, but for some reason yahoo will not work on this computer now. I took a screen shot so you can see what it is doing. All other website are ok.

Uninstall McAfee. You can't have that *AND* MSE running at the same time.

I do not have Macafee installed, I have MSE, and Malware Bytes. Yahoo looked like that before I did any updates or put any security on this computer.

Oops, sorry about that - I saw the "M" in the tray and thought it was McAfee.
However, you might be getting some conflicts with both MSE and MBAM running in the background. I only use the free version of MBAM as a manual scanner. |
