fqpissed cd and dvd playback problems...

Reformatted and installed winxp pro clean... now when I play a cd from my cdrom (digital output) it doesn't play smoothly. also the audio in dvd playback is all garbled and the video is non-existant. any ideas?

athlon 850 in an abit kt7a
768mb 133 ram
maxtor 60gig ide
50x cdrom drive ide
plextor 8x cd-r scsi
pioneer dvd scsi
adaptec 2040u2w scsi adapter
soundblaster live 5.1
abit siluro t400
diamond isa modem
linksys pci lan card
linksys usb lan card connected to verizon dsl with raspppoe installed (hehe)
nice new case from coolerguys

all the super important ones like video card, mobo, and sound card are updated for sure.

Sound & video problems

I had a similar problem on my w2k PC, my DVD playback was terrible. I posted on this forum and was advised to check that my primary ide controller in device manager was set for DMA. Did that and it cured the sound problem and jumpy video playback.
