CD not playing in XP

I don't think this was this way to begin with. Anyhow, it is the system in my signature. When I insert an audio CD, I get this:

I tried to restore defaults on Audio Files and Music CDs and also choosing a program to play.

I then tried these, but everything seems to be right except*:
The AutoRun feature or the AutoPlay feature does not work when you insert a CD-ROM in the CD drive

*The only thing I was unsure about was step 4-6 in method 3. I didn't seem to have those options although there was a #1 in a field under data, but it wasn't how they described in these instructions.

That may only be an option in XP Pro.

I'd recommend you install VLC to play your media.

What options do you have when you right-click on the Audio CD?

VLC is already on there and would do the same thing. In fact, I think at the time I had that as the default player and it started doing that. It seemed like it might have stopped when I uninstalled and put a newer version back on, but not sure I am remembering right. I will look about the right click when I get back there after while.

QM. I have been using JetAudio for as long as I can remember and it always runs flawlessly and has far less distortion than most of the other media players I have come across.

Download jetAudio 8.0.17 Basic - FileHippo.com

I just checked and I think I discovered what I partially remembered about VLC When I change it to be the player, it opens the same way, but it will not play the CDA tracks at all (it used to). I piddled around some with some options on the right clicks and nothing thus far has helped. I might try it under a different user and see if that changes anything. Otherwise, I will have to leave it be for a while. The autorun can be annoying, but when wanting to listen to a whole CD is good. What I really want is for it to ask me what I want to do (that way if I am in a hurry to extract WAVS or something, I don't have to mess with it starting playing), but I can't get that to work either. It still opens up that same window. I saw nothing in folder options or anything that helped.

rjfvillarosa, I am not sure I have heard of that one. It sounds like something I should take a gander at sometime.
