Boom Win98 Computer Stand By Problem

I have recently built a new computer from scratch. My only problem arises with my computer trying to go into stand by mode. Whether i want the computer to or not the computer try’s to go into stand by mode. Even if I’m typing using the mouse or even doing anything on the computer. I have tried the obvious by using the power settings in the control panel and tried looking around in the bios, but fail to find the problem. The computer houses an athlon 1,4ghz thunderbird processor, 512mbs of ram and a 'Hercules' 3d prophet kyro series 64mb video card. If have tried three different video cards but none make any difference. there is no set time between the going to stand by, and ion the 5 minutes that it taken me to write this, it has gone to stand by 3 times. Please can some one help me, the computer has cost me over £700 and I would really like to see this problem sorted as soon as possible. If u needs any more information then please don’t hesitate to ask.

Cheers ever so.

Matt

Question

the thing that i don't get is that your power scheme is set to "always on" but what about the lower items on the power management page which control system standby or monitor or hdd turn off?

is "never" picked for standby??

and the same for monitor and hdd???

example-my power scheme is - always on, system standby - never, monitor - off at 15min, hdd - off at 15min. i never get into standby fully but my monitor and hdd are offline saving some wear and tear.

Have you checked your BIOS settings for power management settings? Try turning it off in BIOS and check to see if Windows still does it.

The other obvious solutions as a first step to troubleshooting is to check with your mobo mfger if it is a documented issue and if there is BIOS update, and also put in the newest drivers of your hardware.

Also check your CPU temps, and if your BIOS is set to shut down/suspend due to overheating.

I don't use the power management stuff. It works flaky at best.
