Format using NTFS or FAT????

Happy new year everybody
I want to format my hard drive and reinstall XP. I have a maxtor 40GB hard drive and split it into 2. one 30GB and the other.... Should I format my 30GB hard drive using NTFS or FAT? By the way, is formatting do any harm to the hard drive... I mean if I format it too many times (about 4 times already), is it still ok if I format it again.
I want to format my drive because I want to remove some of the programs but neither the Add/Remove nor the Uninstall completely remove the progs
thanks

You can format as many times as you want with no harm done. Go with NTFS, it a more secure file system.

Cool

If you aren't going to dual boot, I would use NTFS. If you want to dual boot, remember that XP can use both FAT32 and NTFS while WIN98 can only use FAT32.

Ugh, it was too early when I posted originally...what I intended was split that 30GB partition - that's pretty big to run an OS and Apps on..
