Smile Check Printing Software

Appreciate some assistance.

Anyone know of any free check making software that will allow the creation of personal checks, vs. ordering them from a bank?

Microsoft Money and Quicken offer this, but looking for something for someone who does not have any of these programs.

I don't know off-hand of any free ones out there, but I have been using VersaCheck for about a year. It works well and have had no problems to date.

If I read you correctly, you are wanting to print your own blank personal checks so that you do not have to order them, correct? Answer is that you could print them, but the cost would be more than ordering them, and you bank probably would be calling you, since the ink that normal checks are printed with have a slight magnetic ability. In addition the pre-printed checks from your bank are protected from washing ( bleaching out what you wrote so someone can fill in a differant amount)
If you are wanting less expensive checks, than the ones from your bank, just search the internet for Personal Checks, and you will find several companies where you can order from. Federal law requires that your bank honor these checks as long as they are printed to a certain standard.

Thanks for your replies.

However, I'm thoroughly confused. Banks do not accept checks like VersaCheck and the like??

I use two different major banks and they accept the versacheck printed checks everyday. morriswindgate is right that preprinted checks use a magnetic ink. You can get print cartridges (laser only) that use this. I print mine on a plain old HP932C and my bank takes them all day long. I did however check with both of my banks before doing so.

justbarron,

Thanks for the tip.

Might have to call the bank before plunging into this.
