I have windows ME, and I recently tried to install win 2000. There was some problem and i had to stop the upgrade halfway through. Now, when I boot up my computer, it gives me a choice to start win me, or win 2000 setup. If i leave it alone, it will automatically sart the win 2000 setup and I have to reboot it and choose win me before it starts again. How can I erace all the win 2000 files on this computer so it won't start the setup every time i boot my computer?
thanks |

You can remove the Win2000 Setup entry from your boot.ini file. Also try to find the Win2000 setup files, should be in C:/WINNT.

I'm not very familiar with Windows ME, but try this (Win2k has this option, ME may also): Right click on My Computer, left click "Properties">click the "Advanced" tab. If there is a "Startup and Recovery" choice here, click on it. Look for "Default Operating System," there is a scroll menu whre you can choose WinME. Do so.

Sounds like you did a dual boot; was that your intention?

Hi iaa
This is the procedure i used to remove w2k from my dual boot system. If you loaded it over winme then i am not sure how your setup has been affected. Make sure you have a Win ME start-up floppy handy, in explorer view all files including hidden, i assume you were loading w2k onto a separate partition. if so on the drive where me was loaded look for the following files and remove them, they may not all exist, boot.ini ntldr ntdetect.com pagefile.sys and setupdd.sys. Once they are removed reboot your PC using the winme floppy start-up disc. At the a prompt type in sys c: Once files are copied remove floppy and reboot pc. |
