Serious NTFS problem with XP

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I have an XP PRO machine that shows all the drives as formatted in NTFS but the properties page for the drives and folders only gives options for FAT32. I cannot even set permissions. Any insight and assistance is greatly appreciated as usual.

Addendum

Some more information...

I have the WinXP Adv Server beta installed on another partition and it does recognize the drives as NTFS with all the appropriate options...

Nevermind

OK, should have done the research first...

Just had to uncheck the option for simple file sharing under Folder Options>View

Could somebody tell me, is how do you convert to the NTFS after installation? I've not been able to locate how to do this since I installed the OS.
Any help would be appreciated.

JJJ223,
Go to administrative tools > computer management > disk management > select drive or partition, then go to action, select all tasks then to format.

To do it without formatting: do this in a Command Prompt:

convert x: /FS:ntfs

convert /? will show you all the options.

When I run convert, it says i need to dismount the drive and then it can convert the drive. But it also says that "all opened handles to the volume would then invalid."
What does this mean? Could i lose data or access to programs on the drive?

Thanks for the tips so far.

No you dont lose any data if you save and close all the programs you are using. What it means is that any running program cannot reference the drive you just umounted. Once you reboot or restart the program, everything is bak to the way it was
