Well, that's fine, but some of these Outlook worms do damage even if you just preview the message (no opening of attachments required), and although you might not get infected someone who has your address might. I use pine and couldn't execute .exe files even if I wanted to, but that doesn't mean that I couldn't get a bunch of e-mails from people who use Outlook. I actually got four e-mails from two accounts, imagine if I'd gotten a hundred instead of two per account, now that would be very annoying for me and really bad for the school network (if it didn't filter them out in the first place, which in this case it seems to have done a good job). That's what pisses me off.

I normally use Netscape, or Mozilla, but there are times I use OE. Viri have become such a threat my ISP is now scanning all the emails through his mail system and both of my networks have commercial packages. But the final line of defense is still don't open attachments unless they are expected and you're sure they are clean. Even then there are no guarantees.

Since my e-mail is hotmail, that is what I use. I hate OE, looks horrible, and too confusing for me to want to take the time to learn. I also think it is faster to just use the hotmail web-page(may not be reliabe, but it is fast).

Hotmail is not as safe as you think; I have gotten viruses thru hotmail as well! I have my friends and family send a password in the subject line when ever they are sending attachments just so I know it is from them because a virus will NOT know this password and ensures me that it was sent intentionally from the person.

The reason people will not learn to use Outlook is simple. Its powerful relatively easy to use software that integrates with the other Office Applications. The real question is when will people learn not to spread malicious code. These idiots should be held responsible for the damage caused or never see the sunshine again!

Actually I do use pine (via ssh) most of the time. You'd be amazed at how well it works. I never send any html e-mail and I complain to the people who send me html formatted e-mail. I hate animations the most, so pine automatically gets rid of these for me. Everything is quick and efficient. When I do want to use a Windows program, I use Eudora, which I think is the best email client out there.

Actually, that is not such a good idea, because his computer could be infected without his knowledge. You are also right about Hotmail. They use that pathetic McAfee that couldn't sniff out a virus if it was sh*t right under it's nose. A few months ago I downloaded a virus from Hotmail that McAfee had passed. Norton started screaming as it was coming in and I done a Housecall screen that confirmed it.

I would suggest The Bat for windows, it's a powerful client and personally
I haven't got one virus when using this one except those I've discovered
of course

It can be found at www.ritlabs.com

For those that don't want to get a new address just because they got hotmail.
I would suggest you to get a nice tool called Web2Pop that works several
POP3 clients such as The Bat. You can get it here www.jmasoftware.com
