Question

Is there a way to change the cd, zip, etc drive letters in w2k like you can in w9x?

Also, when I start w2k, while still in dos, I get a message "Disk I/O Error...Status 00008000" - what could this be and how can I get rid of it?

TIA

Hi WJWheels,
Well I haven't used Win2K yet, but in NT if you type 'windisk' inthe run box it'll bring up all the drives on the machine. Here you can assign drive letters......not too sure about Win2k though.

As for your startup error, I can't help. Sorry!

Yours

Declan (aka fredwest)

Cool

Hi Fred.. thanks, I'll try the "windisk" thing.

My error shows up after I elect to boot to "windows 2000" instead of "windows" (dual boot), and only if I elect "windows 2000". It does work itself through however with no action on my part. It seems to take a long time to boot into windows2000 however.

As opposed to a few others that have written here, I really like the "dual boot". I can use any install proggies I have saved under win98 and also, though I have to re-install my applications, I can save documents to the same folders on the C: drive as always.

My wind98, C drive is a disk of it's own... an 8.4gig fujitsu ultra66 5400 rpm. My win2000, D drive is a 4gig partition on a Maxtor 20.4 7200.

I imagine at some point I will pull the existing C drive, causing D to change to C... not missing beat

If Win 2K is anything like NT, you should be able to reassign the drive letters with Disk Administrator.

Thanks GLC... never having used NT, "Disk Administrator" is completely new to me. For win2k it has been renamed Disk Management. I'll see if this does the trick.

Cool

I'm late on this one, but just for info sake here are the steps. Click on "administration tools" in the control panel, then click on "computer management", then "disk management", select the device that you wish to change, right click on select change drive letter.

Cool

The 7 was for the fish I caught, the 2 is for the ones that never made it into the boat.
