WinXP CDRW Drive and Nero problems...

Until about a week ago I had Win98. In Dec I installed a CDRE Drive and the Nero and InCd programs that came with it. I had no problems burning music cd's and no problems being able to make back up copies of my files onto a CDRW Disc.

Now that I have WinXP I can't even make a copy of my files to a disc!
My cdrw drive is: CyberDrv CWO38D CD-R/RW I went to the Nero site and upgraded both the Nero(version 5.5.7.2) and the InCD( version3.2.1.0) programs to what is supposed to be for WinXP and I've installed and uninstalled them so many times it ain't funny

I've also reinstalled winXP.
Here's some of the problems I'm having since installing WinXP:
Nero can't seem to burn music now...After wasting 6 cd's I'm still getting Burn failed due to "Invalid Field in parameter"... I never got this before and have no idea what it means.

I've tried using the windows media player to burn and after wasting several cd's it just tells me next to each song "not enough room"...and this even happened when I only tried to burn 2 songs on a cd.

Also, I have a CDRW disc that I made in Win98 that has back ups of some files. When I try to add more to it now in WinXP ..Winxp wants to erase everything on it first...(the cd is not full). All the files I had saved (in Win98) were showing up though.
I also took an unused cdrw disc and tried to copy some files to it with WinXP and it seemed to work...it said it was done and it ejected the disc yet when I put the disc back on it I couldn't see anything there.

I tried to do the same thing again but this time I formatted it first using InCd and then windows told me the cd wasn't usable.

Oh, one more thing...all of the music cd's work fine when I put them in the cdrw drive and played them on the Windows Media Player. I also checked in the Device Manager and there weren't any of those yellow "!".

Has anyone got any ideas of how to make Nero work and how I can back up files to a CDRW disc? I would hate to switch back to Win98.

Phatboi I downloaded it and did the steps and it wouldn't install into my computer.
When I ran the aspichk. exe, it said that it wasn't properly install or one or more of the componets were replaced with an older version.
Then I ran the aspi.bat and it said couldn't find the path and the last entry said install complete to run aspi32.exe.
I did that and it said No qualified Adaptec products detected. I clicked ok and rebooted and ran the aspichk again and there still isn't anything listed other than WNASPI132.DLL.
Do you have any other suggestions?

i'd hate to say this, but you might want to uninstall Nero yet again. run the aspi check. then run the aspi.exe then run the upgrade. that's the only thing i can think of. the load Nero. b/c i don't think it'll work as well if you already have Nero installed. sorry but i think that's what you'll have to do. get back and i think of somethingelse, but it's Mardi Gras down here in New Orleans so i might not respond right away.

i had exactly the same problem

even though i downloaded all the updates from MSFT, i found my problem was i upgraded my win ME and not let the software format my drive and start again, do not ever upgrade the software let it format and install on a clean drive thats includes reinstalling. its fixed so many annoying little problems, now nero and easy-cd work perfect

I think I finally fixed it...

I reinstalled WinXP but this time I did it as a new installation instead of an upgrade. Then I reinstalled all the updates for everything. And it still didn't work. But I went to the site of the my new CDRW Drive and found out that my drive I had just bought in Dec wouldn't work with windows! Lucky for me they had upgrades for it. I ran out of CDRW cd's so I couldn't try saving the files with those but I was able to see and use the ones I made in Win98. I also had no more problems burning songs.

What good is the Winows device manager and its other features if it tells you there are any problems with the device when there really is a problem!!!

Phatboi thank you very much for your help and I hope you have a great time there at Mardi Gras

Nic, thank you also
