Hi! Everyone!
Here's the deal: I just installed XP on Friday. The XP was installed over the ME that came with my Hewlett Packard Pavilion Celeron.Although I have the XP Full Version,I went ahead and chose upgrade option. Now,I have in the box a ME UP Grade retail box. Can I with my Partition Magic 7 create another drive and put that ME CD Up Grade on that drive.I have no problem making an extra Primary other drive.Just want to know about using the ME Up Grade CD?---------while you are thinking about that,I have a CD Windows Full Version that I will figure out later.- O! O!-----Forgot,I have a beta Windows XP Professional Full Version.I never used it many months ago.I understand that it is good for 1/2 a year.-That's about it.----------Donald Note:it is late here in Texas 3:30AM sat/sun.going to bed.it will be late Sun, afternoon before I will be back at my computer to see your reply.just wanted you to know it. |

While I've never tried it myself, I have read several times that an upgrade of 98 or ME will install as a full install as long as you have a previous disc as "proof of purchase" for the lack of a better term. If you have a Win 98 disc lying around to insert when it asks for it, you can use the ME upgrade to install. The restore discs that come with HP computers will NOT work I've been told.

The ME upgrade will work as a full install as long as you have a verfying disk(98,98se,etc.)
Is it that you plan to do a dual boot? Many times when you follow the upgrade path with XP the system can become flaky,it's best to do a clean install using ntfs for XP and a partition with Fat32 for ME. |

Alfie,
I would recommend fresh installs of win ME and XP in a dual-boot configuration setup. It is more work initially, but will achieve better results in the long run. You will require at least 2 partions for your hard drive *****back up all important data first***** use your partition magic 7 software to create at least 2 partitions 1)install win ME on primary c partition 2)install Win XP on secondary d partition 3)choose new install option instead of upgrade for XP install, and then specify installation to the d drive secondary partition 4)choose format partition prior to install option...I have both my operating dual-boot systems running fat32 {NTFS can be very difficult to troubleshoot} good luck cheers,~pawprint~
