Ok. I had Windows XP Professional installed. Then I installed Windows 2000 Server on my other Hard-Drive. Now, I can't get into Windows XP. At the little screen that asks me what OS I want to start, when I select Windows XP Professional I get this error:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMd startup options for windows 2000, you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows 2000 setup from the original floppy disk or CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start the repair. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After reading this error very carefuly I thin that Windows 2000 setup copies some boot files onto the WindowsXP Hard-Drive and thus it tries to start windows 2000 instead of XP, but thats just my 2 cents. I'm currently in Windows 2000 Server. It starts up just fine. Can I repair my Windows XP Professional installation? Do I need to reintall Windows XP Professional again? What should I do now? Thanks guys. |

I think XP must be last on the chain. A while ago a long procedure on getting around this was posted, but in most cases XP dosen't like going first. This happened to me when I unknowingly tried to install 98 over XP (on a seperate partition.)

What you MAY be able to do (just a guess) is take out the hard drive with 2k on it. Then use fdisk to format the "MBR" which removes the boot manager.

Hpro told me in the chat that he knows a command to fix this... But he's busy with a customer so he'll help you out in a bit.
