Remote desktop
Anybody know how to use remote desktop on XP pro? I use XP pro, but some of my clients use 98/ME. I want to be able to install Remote Desktop on their computers to save them some mileage costs when troubleshooting. What I need to know is:
1) Is remote desktop downloadable from MS, or is it on my XP disk? 2) Does the client have to have a MS passport account to utilize Remote Desktop? 3) How does one go about inviting/being invited to a Remote Desktop session without MS Messenger? Thanks all. |

I use remote desktop, and the way I understand it and use it is that you can install the remote desktop from the XP CD on any client to access your XP system remotely from there not the other way around. Although I may be wrong, but I don't think the other operating systems have the neccessary options running all the time like XP's services do.

PC Anywhere is one such program, you can set it up in many different ways, TCP/IP dial up or any number of different protocols. There's also another program called outreach or reachout or something like that I have a copy somewhere around the house that I never used. There are several different types of these programs floating around depending on what you want them to do.

If i read your post right, with the msn messenger invite etc... you're talking about remote assistance, as remote desktop does not use the msn invite routine. Remote assistance is XP only. You can run remote desktop from any 95 and newer pc to access your pc from the xp cd.
