Can anyone help? Appon bootup after clicking OK for client for microsoft networks I get a message saying: To finish setting up your new hardware, you must restart your computer. Do you want to restrart now?
Every time I boot up this message comes up. After going though device manager I noticed the primary & secondary IDE controller (duel fifo)had the yellow ! as well as my DVD-CDROM having a red X next to it. In the IDE controller properties section it stated that the device cannot work properly until you restart your computer (Code 14). After clicking on the restart button under this writting, everything boots up fine and I can see my DVD-CDROM until you reboot again where the message comes up again and I can't see my DVD-CDROM drive. Under the properties of the DVD-CDROM drive it states that: This device is not working properly because, a device it depends on, Secondary IDE controller(duel fifo), has been dynamically disabled. It then gives you the option of looking at the properties of the Secondary IDE controller (duel fifo) which states the above Code 14 problem. I also tried updating my 4in1 VIA drivers but that didn't change anything. The DVD-CDROM drive is on the secondary IDE as slave currently and I have tried using Primary IDE slave and Secondary Master to no avail. I wonder if I can put this drive on my ATA100 cable? The manual said it was ATA certified but is it a problem putting it on a ATA66/ATA100 IDE cable as aposed to a normal ATA33 IDE cable? |

Hi fish,
Have you check under the Device Manager to see if you have the IDE controller disabled? As far as it being able to run on an ATA66/ATA100 cable it can but it will be limited to the ATA33 speed. If its a slave drive on that cable it may limit the master to that speed too (not sure though). HTH

I've never put CD's on ATA100 cables, only standard ones. Leave the high density stuff for your hard drives. Are you sure your HD's are ata100?
Certainly leave the CD's on the secondary port, hard drives on primary. Try flashing your BIOS. If you still have problems, remove the drivers on everything (CD's, controllers), reboot and see if PNP puts everything back. Make sure the secondary controller isn't turned off in BIOS. Finally, you could just trash Windows and reinstall. Put your drivers on the hard drive for easy access. |

Checked under device manager and the IDE controller is not disabled. Also looked in the bios and secondary IDE is set to auto so it's not disabled. Thinking a bios update is urgently needed as I have had problems in the past which have been sorted out through driver updates. Still using the original bios.
