huh? XP on new PC
OK, so I am not the brightest bulb in the pack. I still turn on.
I bought and loaded XP pro on my PC. I am now going to build another PC. I bet you already know what the question is. I want to use XP (the one I bought for the older PC) on the new PC. How, if possible, can I do this? I don't care if it is on the older PC. Especially if I decide to sell the older PC, I want to be able to keep my XP. Or am I stuck with only being able to use XP one time? Thanks |

Just boot from the WinXP CD. This will install it.
Don't forget to remove WinXP from the older PC. RJ

Has it been activated yet? If not, just put it on the new one. My understanding of the process is that it will quit working after 30 days if not activated. If it has been activated on the old PC, then you would need to contact MS for new activation procedures. Maybe one of the members in the business will respond and clear this up.

If you reinstall XP on the computer it originally was put on and no major hardware changes have taken place,XP will reactivate.
If you plan to put it on a new system,or you've radically upgraded your old computer, you'll need a new activation #,no biggie, just call Microsoft and explain your situation and they'll give you a new one. |

ahhh
yes it has already been activated. That is what I am concerned about.
From what I read it seemed like a one shot deal. Not just install it again. That would be good for about thirty days I think. I will try to call MS (why does that sound so hard?) I don't suppose that anyone would have a phone # for them hanging around? I am not normally a negitive thinker, but I will br real supprised if its this easy. thanks again for the help |

my experience has been
I bought xp. installed it, activated it and all was fine, then I bought w2000 pro and a new hard drive to out it on, I wanted to dual boot, in the process something got messed up, and I had to format both drives, after the new installation of both systems xp would not activate. called ms and explained what I did and he gave me a new code for xp. I asked why it would not use the first one and he said it was not designed for reinstalling, and it will default this way. no problem the entire phone call took less then 5 min. |
