IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Error
Trying to install BG2:SoA, the install gets to 95% complete and then asks to insert disk 1, put the disk in and hit okay and then get the pretty blue screen with the error message IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, then the system reboots. At first I thought AutoRun might be causing the problem as it was doing its thing after putting the disk in, but I turned AutoRun off and I am still having the problem. Interupt Request Level...not sure why there should be a malfunction, I loaded up one or two other programs that used more than one disk and they installed without a hitch. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Oh one other odd note. My CD-ROM drive seems to have managed to renamed itself BG2_CD1(R: ), the R: is fine that is what I changed it to. It retains this name even when I have CD-ROMs for other games and programs in the drive. I think I'll try deleting it and letting the OS redetect it.

Well deleting the CD-ROM while in normal mode caused the exact same error. Had to do it in Safemode. The drive is now back to its proper name. Now every time I try to run the Setup.exe for the game, it asks me if I want to Confirm File Deletion, do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its components. GRRRRRRRRRRRR. Why in the world would it want to uninstall the program when I run the program that is supposed to run the Install Shield? ARGHHHHHHHHH.
There is an extraneous link to the game in the Add/Remove Programs queue. Of course, since the game didn't entirely install, I had to delete it manually, maybe this is what has the computer so confused? Thanks, |

I see this problem more often now with the VIA chipsets. You will need to re-arrange your PCI cards, free up any IRQ's you can, and update all of your device drivers.
Have you tried installing the VIA 4in1 drivers? |

I have tried all of that. I am actually getting ready to put this computer in the shop. The tech actually believes it is a hardware problem. Before I take it in I am going to move my sound card to a differnt spot and unplug all my AGP card and RAM and plug it back in. I am also going to take out my 4 2.0 USB port and see if that frees up some IRQ spots.

Acid,
Don't take it into the shop before you do any of your own work. Try another stick of RAM, disable Serial ports, com ports, disable anything you have onboard that you don't use. Disable and unplug those 2.0 USB ports. Then reseat each PCI card. Install the latest drivers for EACH PCI card, aswell as the latest drivers for your video card. Install VIA 4 in 1 Drivers. If all of thet fails, the problem that I think is what causing all of this, your VIA chipset. I think it's time that you purchase a new and better motherboard. Believe me, I tried everything what you did above, besides removing my USB ports, and no success. I only had success running Windows 2000, until the error came up a few nights ago. Although I havent seen it in a while. Try running the system without your sound card, or try a different sound card. |

Acid-Klutch,
I really don't remember how/what resovled this problem. I think I finally got POed and formatted my hdrive and then reinstalled WinXP, followed by BG2, which has been 97% stable since then. But it has been a while so a few hdware changes have also taken place since then. Sorry I can't be of more help. Cirerrek |
