I tried putting in my adaptec 19160 in my win2k (single partition) machine and now win2k won't boot.
details: I had the drive cage out (holds my ide drive with win2k on it) and installed my scsi drive. I also installed the controller card. I left the scsi drive uplugged from power and scsi ribbon. I figured I would boot up and install the needed drivers for the adaptec card and then reboot again and hook up the scsi hdd (Fujitsu 18G U160). BUT, when I did initially boot the ide hdd just sat there making a fairly loud scratching sound and then I get a message it is looking for scsi boot disk. Not really knowing what to do I shut down and pull the adaptec card and figured I get a normal boot from the ide hdd and install the adaptec drivers first and then the card, hdd. Well now it will do one of two things. It will start booting to win2k and error out right away with that there is something wrong with win2k software - need to load .dlls for kernal or it will have a master ide error and halt at splash screen. Also noticed that is has bios update data incorrect during boot. Is there something corrupt in the ide hdd or when I was installing the adaptec card did it do something to the bios? Please help as the computer is useless as this point. Machine: P4T-E P41.8G 256mb
