Hi

win98 is not very secure, anyone can re-boot your PC after you have set the screensaver password and get into your data, a more acceptable alternative is a BIOS password which when set will ask for a password before windows loads. but even this is not completely safe as removing the m/b battery will erase your password.

well, i don't really have to worry about them rebooting my pc here. and a bios password is sort of out of the question. i was just wondering if in windows i could lock it.

Win 9x isn't made for security. If you are that concerned, upgrade to Win 2K. Otherwise, DougL is right: restarting the computer will get around your screensaver password.

you could also create a fake lock-screen in HTML. Make a little script which opens a page full-screen.Make that full-screen page empty with a black bacground. This way it looks like your PC hangs, or if windows' hasn't loaded. I don't know the script for this, but try Dynamic Drive, they have tons of scripts.

If you want to secure files in a way that people cannot see them or access them, I found a neat little program while searching the MP3 sites. It basically will allow a file to be enbedded within another file without changing the the host file. It can also be password protected. It's freeware from the link below.
