I am getting a external hard drive for my computer for storage and helping some friends out. Well I would like to know if this hard drive can be partioned by disk management. The drive will be usb , just thought it would be a bit easier than hooking up to ide . Anyone have any experience trying out this , also the computer is running Windows Xp. Thanks for any replys, Gary

Well, just to let you know you've not been forgotten, here's a reply. Sorry, but I haven't any hands-on with the new USB externals. I do know that you'll want the USB 2 type, the latest PC Magazine raves about them as wonderful backup tools, among their many uses. I'd suppose the manual that comes with the drive will cover it's formatting. But if not, article Q309000 over in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (on their support site) covers formatting questions with XP's Disk Management. That article also has a nice assortment of related links at the bottom of the page. There's a nice discussion of Basic Drives vs. Dynamic Drives, too. The article doesn't mention anywhere that Disk Management can't be used with a USB drive (though it would be sensible to check it's documentation first)....
