I want to install Windows XP home edition on my mom's and my own computer. I have some questions about Windows XP. I've heard that some people have to update their bios over the Internet if they install XP. My mom's computer is only a 233 MHz Cyrix processor (not a Pentium), 1 MB video memory, 128 MB RAM, PC-Chips model M571 motherboard, and her bios is American Megatrends and I think only about July 1995. I have 300 MHz Cyrix Pentium II type processor, 4 MB video memory, 128 MB RAM, a PC-Chips model M571, and bios is American Megatrends 7/15/95. I want to make sure it works because I'm going to format the drive and start all over. With this info do you see any problems installing XP? Also, do I have to update our bios? I don't know if I want to fool around with the bios unless it's easy.

I think XP will run awfully slow on that setup. I believe it needs a 266mhz processor to run. You may also want to download and run the MS XP upgrade advisor to see if all the hardware is compatible. XP also needs 1- 1.5GB of space just for the install of XP.

I'm in agreement with Deadeye. XP is a stretch for those systems. You don't indicate what HD size you have but I'm running XP PRO that is loaded on a 4G partition and it used up 3G just for the install. If I was doing it now I would use a 6G partition.
XP cain't be installed on multiple PC like WIN9X and ME can because of the activation. You will need to purchase a copy for each system. MS also has a download to check for compatability. It is a 50M download that chechs your system for compatability. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...buy/upgrading/ Chas
