This is not major, but one of those "why did this happen" that I can't figure out.
I have XP Home and I am the only user/administrator on the computer. Even Guest is turned off. Since October when I bought this computer the initial login screen pops up with my username and the box to type the password in already open with the cursor in the box. All I had to do was type my password and hit enter and I was in. Now for some unknown reason, the login screen comes up and tells me to click on the username to enter the password. I have to click on my username, even though it is the only one there, to get the password dialog box to open to enter the password. I checked all the user settings and there are no other users. Wonder why I would now have to click my name to enter the password? You would think that if there is only one user, it would always have the password box open and ready to type in since that is the only choice to make.

Umm. . so are you getting the "Welcome screen" now ? The screen with the "Welcome" on it ?
If so, go in Windows to Control Panel > User accounts. Click on "Change type of log-in" (or simliar. It is the third of the three options there). And there uncheck the "use welcome screen". This will give you the normal password box back. But I have no clue why it was changed as you described. RJ |

Thanks for the reply RJ, but that's not my problem. I got the Welcome screen before and still do, but the password box next to my user name was already open to type in the password. Now I'm still getting the welcome screen, but I have to click the icon associated with my name to get the password box to open to be able to enter the password. I'm having to do one extra step than I did before...but I've always had the Welcome screen.

if you're the only user, why are you using the login to begin with? for security reasons?
