I have it running on my son's computer, and never had any problems with it, other than some installers crashing out, I guess because they don't know what ME is.

I know some say it is awfiul, and bloated, but I turned all that backup stuff "off" as much as is possible. The movie maker that is built in to is stinks, but it's better than nothing I suppose.

Ran winME for a year and "thought" I liked it. Upgraded to Win 2k and felt like I died and went to heaven. Year old pc ran much faster/smoother/better.

Cool

I've never ran it, but from reading post it is probably better than others with the 9X kernel. I think MS had it pretty much developed when they decided because of stability to focus on the NT kernel and went ahead and released it just to get a few more dollars out of the public before the release of XP.

I don't believe it was that successful. I think most are like me, in order to justify the expense of switching OS's, I need to see some real changes.

I predict it will be a long time before I abandon XP. I mean, only time I ever boot anymore is when a installed program requires it.

I ran it for a while, worst OS I've ever had to deal with. I don't know what it was, maybe it just didn't like my hardware but it would constantly crash HARD, especially in games.

When I migrated to Windows 2000 it was like a whole new world. In my opinion 2000/XP are FAR better OS' than any 9x based OS.

My Windows 98 SE is as stable as a rock. I've had no need to want to upgrade to ME, 2K, or XP.

My son like ME because he says it networks better than 98.

I've been running WinME since a month before it's official release (we had early stock). Never had a problem with it and it actually ironed out a couple glitches I had with an older scanner. Felt smoother and faster than 98 ever did (98 was OK though, no complaints). I have one machine upgraded to XP and will do the other soon. Nothing against WinME, but XP is based on the NT kernel and you can't beat it.

I honestly can't say a bad thing about ME. I actually had worse probs with win2k believe it or not. I do know many people feel that ME was a plagued problematic OS but I've love it.

I ran it for about a couple of months. Took it off and reinstalled Win98. It had some nice features but didn't really work well with my setup and or games.

Truth is, I like just about every OS I've tried, from DOS to XP to Linux to VMS. Haven't tried Solaris or BE yet. ME has the usual MS strengths: compatible with tons of hardware & software, and is nice-looking too. I put together some systems with it and they should be reaching their 2nd birthdays sometime soon. No problems (though we did have to download drivers back when ME first came out: routine for a new OS)

I have been running it on my laptop (which gets used everyday) since it came out and have never had a problem I didn't bring on myself screwing around.

IMHO,

WinME is the worst OS next to Windows 3.1 which is not really an OS but more of a translator or GUI.

I have used every MS OS out and I prefer WIN2K.

For domain applications WIN2K Server is AWESOME!!

It's as good as your system is, the key with any MS OS is to get all the updates and bug fixes. Maintain your machine in good condition by defragging and uninstalling programs correctly. Don't load up the machine with a bunch of betas, demos, freeware and shareware.

I hated ME even after the hastle of setting it up just right it would still crash on me for no apparrent reason, hard to troubleshoot too. and whats the use of having a config.sys & autoexec.bat if ME changes it back when you reboot, it reminded me of aol. I have used alot of OS's I thought the best was mac OS but then theres that software compatibility thing. as far as microsoft goes I like XP, 2000, 98_SE, 98, DOS, ME, 95, n then done the line pretty much in that order.

Excuse me, *whahahahahahahaha* *cough* let's get to the point. ME is one of the WORST networking Windows'. If you go to Your network neighborhood, it still shows network locations that don't exist anymore. All dead network link are not being removed in ME, you have to do that manually via the system registry.... All other win9x based Windows' did that automatically for ya..... So, networking via ME is not really good. At least, not BETTER then other win9x based windows'.

My experience networking with ME has been far better than with 98 and 95. At least, ME doesn't require a network disk to join a workgroup.

I've never had networking issues with WinME either, other than it doesn not like or play well with NETBEUI.

The only problems I have had with ME are from an upgrade disk. The WinME I have on my laptop is factory installed and I have never had an issue with anything.

I wouldn't go that far as to say it's child's play, it makes my life a lot easier. When a customer comes in and can't fix their machine, they drop it off and that's one of the first things I'll try. Run the restore, quick fix, done, make out the bill.

ME has been running my daughter's machine for about a year now. Never has given any problem. Seemed to install a network camera without any hitch. Only annoying points are the aforementioned problem with dropping network locations (I always thought that was my problem for not learning more about ME) and the difficulty in running scan disk because it is networked. Same problem with win98, but at least you can drop off the network and run scan disk from the dos prompt. -- Don't tell me about rebooting in safe mode to run scan disk. That's a pain. Maybe the problem is with scan disk and not the OS?

I personally skipped ME and went straight to 2K and XP. I do have a couple of friends who run it and they are always calling me to help them with problems. I agree with morriswindgate in his earlier post. Most computer problems stem from the person running it. As far as different flavors of Windows (or Linux) goes....... think for a moment. Seems like we have all had our fair share of operating system problems. I know people who love Windows 98, yet I had nothing but trouble with it even though I kept it clean and was current on all the updates. Almost all of my problems went away when I upgraded to W2K and XP. Even more of my problems went away when I found Linux. But that is just me.

All you have to do is boot of a Win98 disk or cdrom and run scandisk from there.. easy as peeling a apple..
Same for SCANREG and other things.. which you can't take care on WinME unless you actually booted into WinME desktop..
And I can assure you that this works.!! you could also download the DOS PATCH for it..

I orignialy had ME installed on my Dell Dimension 8200pc put I had all kinds of problems from improper shutdown errors to never auto running my programs, to crashing all together.

then I went and installed Win98SE and things worked for a while and then I started having all kinds of problems with that to even after installing all the fixes for the OS.

Then I went back to ME and Installed all of the fixes their too and still had many issues, finally I installed XP and had even worse problems at times I could not open any programs on my desktop.

The whole problelm with my pc ended up being a ba d build so dell upgraded me to a 8200 with winXp and I have not problems at all.
