I just installed windows 98 on a new system. During the reboot after installation, i got an error message, "himem.sys has detected unreliable xms memory of address 02000000, xms driver not installed"
Where is this driver located? Spoon |

Hi daspoon,
The problem might be bad RAM that is not allowing the xms driver to be installed. Try switching out the RAM. Cricket

Hi daspoon,
Could you post what you did to resolve the problem. There may be other forum members who are following this thread and would like to know how what you did to fix the problem. Cricket

I took out the memory and disabled the cpu cache in bios.

I reinstalled the memory and everything is fine now. Maybe it wasn't in all the way.

Remember, you can always test your Ram (as opposed to having it counted at bootup) anytime by booting into Safe Mode. When you do so, it automatically runs the memory check.
Just a useful bit of info. Last edited by mike breck; 05-14-2002 at 04:00 PM. |
