win xp installation problem
Hi all. I am building my first computer and am having some problems with installing win xp pro. I get into the BIOS and set everthing up. set the cd-rom to boot first. It runs the wni xp cd and i partition the hard drive for xp to install. It does this and then restarts. I then went back into the BIOS and set my hard drive as the first boot device. This is were the problem comes in. It loading but then jumps back to the cd-rom. It just keeps looping back the the win xp setup. anyone have any ideas why? Here is my system:
k7n 420 xp 1800 micron 512 pc2100 (256 in right now) on board lan, audio and video pioneer 16x dvd lite-on 32x12x40 cdrw western digital 80gb antec 350w case The hard drive is brand new and the win xp cd is an upgrade version. Could that have something to do with it? |

During that first reboot don't reset the BIOS. Just sit back and let the setup and install complete. Once it is all done, then go in and change the BIOS. If it is an upgrade version it will prompt you that it needs to check for another version of Windows to see if you are eligible for the upgrade. When it does this, just pop in one of the other copies of Windows CD and the setup should detect it.
I hope this helps...not really sure if I read your post right. freezinbutt |

Don't bother switching things in the BIOS, leave it to boot from CD first. Start the machine and press a key to boot from the CD when prompted and go through the first part of the installation. Let it reboot, you will be prompted to press a key to boot from the CD, DON'T touch anything and it will proceed to boot from the hard drive and should continue with the installation. If that doesn't work, remove your CD and allow the system to boot from the hard drive, then give it the CD when it prompts you for it.

Hal what you said worked, I removed the cd and then when it asked for the cd it then installed win xp. So I have win xp installed but it still keeps looping to the window set up program. When it asks me if I want to install/repair, it show that win xp is on the cdrive in the windows folder. But it won't start up. Anybody know why it is doing this?
