msn messenger?
i've heard of the new service release microsoft is to release later this year. are they going to make the msn messenger thingy that lets you get rid of it without harming other programs available as a download as well? or is it already? i really want something specifically from microsoft. i've dabbled with other stuff that got rid of messenger for me and they always seemed to have some sort of mal-affect on my system. thanks as always...

I found that Outlook express is set by default to log on the MSN, After unchecking that, and using msconfig to get MSN to stop loading at boot, I seem to have gotten rid of it!!

Well, yes I think due to the court rulings, MS will have to release windows patches that remove some of the forced MS software, at least thats what the court wants them to do. I'm not sure if it passed. Anyway, I never found MSN to be a big deal with XP, just disable it from starting up and going to the tray in the actual messenger options, then disable it in outlook like ktk did above.

it seems to start up whenever i go to hotmail.com as well, which is a real pain to say the least, and when i rip it, kicking and screaming, off of my computer with one of the registry edits i've found, hotmail and outlook and everything else seem to take forever to load up if they do at all. i've heard that this is because they are searching for any way possible to start msn messenger. anyways, thanks for the help, i sure do hope those fixes come out soon...

I haven't personally used the command because I do use Messenger ocassionally. But I have seen it posted here before:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove I just have it set not to load automatically and have it disabled in start up as well. It is only active when I want it to be. Tuf |
