partition problem
I have devided my hard disk into 2 partitions C and D. My intentions was to have windows 98Se on C and the other data on D.
But when i try to install programs on D they scatter files all over the D partition instead of in just 1 folder. If i then install the program on C instead, it is installed in 1 folder as it should be. But installing this way on C means that if Windows is damaged beyond repair the programs go with it. Is there any way to get the programs to install on D in their proper folders instead of scattering just files around. Thanks |

Sadly, as far as i know, that's just the way programs are installed. Often programs need to install files in the partition where windows is installed to run properly i.e. the registry.
If you are really worried about windows being damaged beyond repair you should keep regulary backups (weekly, or monthly depending on how important/regulary you change your files) using something like Norton Ghost. If anything goes wrong you can easily re-install a backup! Hope this helps Babylon |

You have to watch how your are installing your programs. By default, they will go to C:\XXXXX or C:\PROGRAM FILES\XXXXX. When you name it to D:\, you have to make sure that you have specified a directory name as well (D:\XXXXX or D:\PROGRAM FILES\XXXXX), or else they will be files all over the place like you mentioned.
