system file cheker and scan disk

My father fell for the jdbgmgr.exe virus hoax and deleted the file. The file is actually a normal Windows file used for java. He has Windows 2000 pro. I looked in his system tools folder and couldn't find scandisk or system file checker. I can get the file back by other means but i was wondering if these two programs(scandisk and sfc) may be under a different name somewhere in the computer and if not where could I download these programs. I don't have the Windows 2000 disk, because the person he bought his computer off of did not give him it. I only have the Windows 98 cd. Thanks

Chris

I was there. I have already recovered the file but i had to do another way from what it says on that site, because i can't find the system file checker on his computer. And while I was there I didn't see scandisk either. Thanks

2000 heals itself - if you delete the jdbgmgr.exe it just replaces it from the dll cache. 2000 doesn't have system file checker, you have to boot with the CD and do a repair, and it uses chkdsk instead of scandisk. You run it from a command prompt - chkdsk /f is like normal scandisk, and chkdsk /r looks for bad sectors. Requires reboot.
