Task manager processes

I am having trouble with dropped frames when I try to capture DV from my camcorder. My system does meet the minimum requirements for my firewire card and software although my hard drive is quite full. One way I believe I can avoid dropped frames is to close all unecessary applications and processes. Can anyone tell me which Processes listed in the Task Manager are required to be left running as I have about 20 to 30 sometimes.

Thanks, Neil

You really need to clean up the hard drive or add another one for just the video - and defrag before a capture session.

Oh I forgot to mention my operating system is XP Professional (FAT32) upgraded from 98SE. I would like to try to close all unecessary processes to at least try and see if it reduces the dropped frames to an acceptable level before I splash out on a hard drive that still may not fix the dropped frames.
