Photoshop 5.0 has some dimm buttons
It has been a while since I have messed with photoshop but last night I tried to resize some images. If you go to HELP and then RESIZE IMAGE the screen that comes on has all the buttons dimmed out and I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to get out of photoshop. I checked there site and it has something todo with photoshop not recognizing the proper fonts. the fonts could either be corrupt, missing, too many installed, or installed from a third party software proggy to the registry where photoshop cant recognize them. I have installed TWEAKUI and tried the repair fonts with no success. I can do just about anything else except resize because it will not allow me to. Is there any way of reinstalling all the fonts in Win2k pro? All the fonts in the folder are TTF, or FON, and I have already unistalled and installled photoshop again. I did notice that photoshop is not in the add/remove programs in control panel. I have to got to START/PROGRAMS/ADOBE/PHOTOSHOP and then the uninstaller. I thought it would at least show up in the control panel under add/remove. Well at this point I am open to any suggestions since I would like to resize some images, but I am not dying to do it. I will include a screenshot of what I am experiencing and you hopefully will notice they buttons being grey or dimm. TIA

you do have something installed wrong or not installed at all.
everything that you say yours don't do, works just fine with mine, and it is listed in the add/remove list in the control panel. |

I can see your point that it's not in the add/remove list, but other than resize I can do just about anything else with photoshop. I guess I will have to keep looking. Any more ideas, anybody?

Maybe I will resinstall this weekend again and try a custom install and see what options I have.

Do a fresh install, and make sure to install it right on top of the C: drive (it would look like this, C:\Photoshop) This could definitely make sure you having no problems. I once had a problem with the "Extract" command (added in 5.5, I believe) all dimmed out no matter what. I called Adobe support (while in warranty) and the guy knew right away what the porblem was; as a symptom of not installing right on top of the C: drive and using the default instlall location, the folder that contained the "Extract" command was too far down the folder tree. He had me move the folder further up the tree in the Photoshop directory. Then he said in the future to make sure and install on top of the C: drive to make sure the program has an easier time looking for itself.
Hope this helps. Doing this every time I install PS 5.5, has shown zero problems. (if you already install on thop of C:, then it must have just gotten installed wrong initially)

Dilly,
Well the default install on mine is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 5.0\Photoshp.exe" Maybe I can reinstall it and choose for it to install in C:\photoshop. Jim, Thanks for the post on Adobe! Can someone tell me if the default install path I have above is consistent with yours in win2k. TIA Edrod13 |
