What program are you using that is causing the problem? Is it doing this in Explorer? I had a similar issue with CDex when I was trying to rip my CD's to MP3. If I let Winamp or any other program autoload the music CD, the CD drive would disappear and I would have to restart the computer to get it back. And not only would it disappear, it wouldn't even eject the CD that was in it. Anyway, I used the settings in CloneCD to disable "autoplay for audio CD's" and this solved my problem.

I came across this once and I fixed it by upgrading the BIOS to the latest version.

You can download the free trial of CloneCd, just search for it.
Try holding down the shift key when your CD's load, this will disable autoplay for just that load. See if you have the problem then. Seems like if more than one program tries to access the disc at the same time (Winamp and Explorer, say) it freaks the computer out. |
