I was wondering, do the service packs usually include all the previous critical fixes and recommended updates that are on the Windows Update site? Basically, that would be good if it did, for a fresh install of XP. But right now I have every update installed, and am also wondering if I will need the SP1 on my current install (will it have extra fixes that can't be downloaded separately, and will the sp1 be smart enough to know what I already have installed)

It will, but many of the updates are patches and not fixes. The Service pack should include a real fix to stuff that has had a patch in the past and will include bug fixes.

I loaded the Beta service pack for XP and it removed the Name of the Patches from Add and Remove programs. I am sure this SP has all the patches and is up to date.... After I loaded the service pack I did a XP udate and it said that there was no critical updates to be loaded.... It also loads up the .NET pipework.... peace..
