NTFS to FAT32?

Ok, I made a mistake by installing Windows Xp and choosing the wrong partition which was NTFS. How do I go back to FAT32?

xion,
I am pretty sure that Xp runs on a ntfs partition. That is the way I partitioned my hardrive for XP home. I think fat32 was for Windows 98 and earlier, but I am not an expert so I may be wrong.

XP supports both file formats. I think it will require a program like Partitions Magic to convert it back to FAT32 or reinstall the OS.

BTW unless it is a multi boot configuration NTFS is the preferred format.

If i didn't read wrong, it said that you can't go back. Yea, NTFS is cool but I need FAT32 to install win98 again.

What is partition magic's site?

Partitions Magic cost $70.00 USD it would be a lot cheeper to reinstall.

Using Fdisk to delete the non dos partition and then you will be able to create a new partiton to format as fat32 to install 98

Hi,

do you want to dual boot WinXP and Win98 or do you want to get rid of Win98 ?

In either case, I'd remove WinXP (for dual boot frist install Win98, then XP).

Just boot from the Win98CD, run FDISK and remove the partitions and create new ones. Then format C: and install Windows 98.

RJ

I used Partiton Magic 6.0 on my W2K ntfs partiton, to see if I could switch back to FAT32, all went fine until the reboot then W2K could not find Ntoskrnl.exe, and ended up reinstalling anyway
