WIN 2000 upgrade ???
Hi folks this is my first post here. Looks like a very helpful site
I have upgraded from win 98se to win 2k pro. All went well except...when I boot up I get what appears to be a Duel boot countdown screen asking whick operating system i want to use Windows or Win 2000. I never setup 2 partitions and just installed win2000 right over win98se switched all to the NTFS. If i select win2k all boots well. If i select Windows the machine just sits and does nothing. is there a way to eliminate this screen or step? or at least make the countdown page faster say one second? thanks folks, |

Yes. What you need to do is go into the boot.ini file and remove the section dealing with 98. For just the countdown, If you right click on my computer, then properties, then go to advanced-startup and recovery and there you could set the countdown. To remove it all together, open up notepad and edit C:\Boot.ini (it's a hidden file) Here you'd remove the line for 98 and save, then reboot. Wouldn't be a bad idea to backup this file first in case it gets messed up.
