Moving My Documents

I am running WinXP Pro. I want to move my My Documents folder to a different partition. The help section kept talking about Group Policies. I have no idea what these are or how to use them. All i really want to do is move the folder. If anyone can offer any insight to this problem i'd really appreciate it.

Open windows explorer.
Right Click on My Documents .. select Properties
Click Move
Select target location or create a new target.

you're done.

Taking this a little further

How do I move my files from a FAT32 partition to a NTFS one? Do hooking the HDs work?

It shouldn't matter as Winxp can read fat 16, fat 32, and ntfs. These are file sytems but data is still data.

It doesnt make a difference what partitions you are using to move the files to and from, provided the OS has access to both the drives and filesystems (that goes without saying).
The only issues that need to be considered when moving files is between:
NTFS to FAT32 if the files have been encrypted
NTFS to NTFS if there are security restrictions put in place

Other than that its seamless. The fact that XP supports FAT32, FAT and NTFS means you can use all three filesystems without too many issues.

The only thing of note from a FAT32-NTFS move is that the files will be visible by everyone (security defaults to r/w everyone)

Thanks statica. Is it possible to still make the folder private if it isn't in my personal directory?

If you have administrative priveleges then yes. If not it tends to inherent the security policies of the parent folder.
Am not too sure of that unfortunately.
