Thanks to a mention in the Admin forum by reboot, we now have a Windows ME forum. Being reboot is so gifted at Windows 9x, (and he'll have a copy of WindowsME up and running shortly) he'll be the moderator of this forum.

Up and running
Got my ME machine up and running last night. Running good. Have it on my Athlon system. Running Quake arena. Runs well. Have yet to install all my "junk" software yet!
One feature I recognized was, it automatically installed shared printers in workgroup without me having to "install new printer". Wow! Anyway, I will keep everyone updated.

I got my copy up and running too, without a hitch. Some nice performance upgrades I noticed, other than that it's the same old same old.

I also have it installed and the main difference that I see is that it seems to run a little faster but is more regimented as to what you can do with it. I'd like to find out about the super duper tools that it is supposed to have.

Hello Everyone,
I have ME upgraded on both of my pc's. And for five days I have not seen the BSOD not that I miss it! I've run alot of stuff at it and it hasn't crashed yet! Some programs start a bit slower but very stable! One question though has anyone run nero under ME? |

I have run NERO, CloneCD, and EasyCD Creator all without any problems under ME.

Installed ME 3 days ago without a hitch, runs great,My internet connection is way faster now for some reason!Only thing I have noticed is that copying system files from the A drive is no longer an option when formatting a floppy..

Hal, So have I, without a single problem. CloneCD is awesome. EZcd is not that great. I am surprised my plextor utilities worked, but they do. ME is actually running GREAT!

I wonder if seti at home will run any faster on ME...
![]() I played with a copy of ME here at the store. It was from an HP computer, I just copied the Hard Drive and put it in another machine. It Detected all the hard ware and seemed to run Ok. However the HP install used 2 G of space...I have the Cab files seperated out, but without the productkey they are useless...I will be getting the key so I can do an Install myself and then I will form an opinion on it. Untill then I have no opinion as to if it is an improvement or more bloat. I don't like the idea of losing dos mode...Since I still like to play some of the older games...I know they will play inside ME most likely, but that is beside the point...

Byte, I don't really find SETI any faster with ME, probably because it's processor intensive, not OS intensive.
Cobra, on my system, if I check off the setting "enable write behind caching for removable disk drives" in the system properties, EasyCD runs great. Without it burns at 6x are touch and go. |

Mine runs fine burning at 12x, but the only thing I do not like about it (EZ) is it can not duplicate some disks like clonecd or NERO, as for burning data and picture cd's it's great. I am going to try winOnCD and nti tonight.

Yea...I can agree with that. I have NTI as well and it does a pretty good job of doing my backups for me.

I have it running for almost 2 months, and haven't crash once.
Burning cds, playing mp3s, and surfing is a breeze, so far so good. System is Celeron 533 MHZ in a Intel SE440BX, 128 megs of RAM, Diamond 32 megs AGP video, SB Live, HP burner and 52X creative CD ROM. I clean installed Win ME to avoid any conflict. ![]() |

I installed Windows ME last week. It is still too early to tell, but things seem to work pretty well. One problem that I encountered right away was that I had my system set to use LILO to boot to either Windows or Linux. The Linux partition is still there but I have to use the floppy to boot into Linux if I want to use that OS. I have noticed also that ME seems to run a few degrees cooler than Win 98. Maybe because it is a fresh new install. I can't say, but it is running a little cooler.

I seem like the only one who had major problems with Millenium. Before upgrading from 98SE, I had almost forgotten what color a BSOD was. After installing it, I became good friends with my reset switch, and sometimes even my power cord. Any DirectX or OpenGL game would BSOD or just hang, my CD-ROM wouldn't autorun (Yes autoinsert notification was on), and random hangs were frequent. Now that I'm back on 98FE (yes FE) things are running smooth as silk. Good riddance.

I upgrade from 98SE with all current updates. I first run scan disk then defrag then run virus scan. Removed all virus scan software dissabled firewall, crossed my fingers and loaded the upgrade. It took about 50 minutes on a celeron 400mhz with 96 mb of ram, booted a couple times and has been running like a charm. I only had to reset the DUN settings. My other system took about 35 minutes with a celeron 535mhz with 128mb of ram lost nothing was on the net getting the upgrade patches soon after the ME intro video! I have seen on other messaqge boards were alot of people are having problems with ME and here I am not having any! Makes me want to pinch my self but with the kid yelling Dad I know I not dreaming!
