After reading many of the 1,000 plus comments and question on the News Group: microsoft.public.windowsme.newusers the most important suggestion fromthe WindowsME Tech is to uninstall Norton utilies before attempting to install Windows ME. After you have the new softeware up and running then it is okay to reinstall Norton utilities. Also deleting all temp files, and runing scan disk and disk defrag before attempting to install Windows ME can reduce or eliminate problems. Read the Windows ME news group before starting.I have install ME on one PC and laptop with minor problems.

Similar problems reported with McAfee (both the utilities and the antivirus), and System Mechanic. I guess the ME kernel is too much for those "do it all" bloatware utils.

I stopped using Norton Utilities a while ago. It just doesn't help much. Norton Antivirus is great though...but you've got to uninstall that too, not only installing ME but 98 as well.

I've always run NAV and have never had to uninstall to go from 95 to 98, 98 to 98SE, 98SE to ME.
