Hi Justin26k,

You said you hooked it up, then installed it. Normally it's the other way around. You may have to uninstall, unhook, and try again.

Is the printer recognized in Printers?

Ya. Every USB device I've ever installed has been install the drivers / software first, then hook up the device. The few times I didn't do installation in that order, I've had problems.

Of course, nI haven't installed everything in the world so there is bound to be exceptions, but I have installed various printers, scanners, cameras, misc stuff...

HTH

Ah, I think we got the finger on it now! Some printers are LPT1 (parallel port), some are USB, and some are Both.

If you have the first or second, you have no option but to install it as required by the type. If you have the third, where both are supported, then pick which one you want to use -- I recommend going with USB -- and then install per instructions.

If the instructions stay to hook up first, you're probally hooking up to the parallel port. Hook up first is normal in this case.

Are you sure it's a USB and not Parrell?? Parrell cable has 25 pins in the head, and two Rod like things that connect to the back of your PC, and the other end goes to the back of the printer which is like a female connector wth two clibs on the back of the printer that snaps on to the cable to hold it in place. And the USB has a flat head that simply slides into the back of the PC'S USB. If it is then install the software first than plug in and turn on the printer.

If that does'n work make life easier go with HP.

Check to see if the printer appears in device manager, if so remove it and unplug the USB cable, reboot and reinstall the printer and software as directed to with the printer directions. Also check Epson’s site for updated drivers.

smokin

Right click on the printer icon> Select printer properties> Details tab. Change the port in the drop down box from LPT1 to USB.
If you dont have a USB option in the box, the USB support hasnt been installed yet. Or may have to be enabled in BIOS. But first try to change the port in Printer Properties

Is the printer attached to a hub or an USB port directly at the motherboard?

If it is attached to a hub you will have the result you described.
According to Lexmark support the printer has to be installed at a direct USB port.

There are no specialized USB drivers for this printer, the supplied CD will install the correct port.

You might have to uninstall all previous driver installations in order to get a positive result.

Hope this helps.
