I had a working copy of Win 98 working on my C: partiton and attempted to instal XP Pro on the D: partition. It failed with all kind of error messages. I decided to do a fresh install of Win 98 and forget about XP so chose fdisk. Now fdisk will not delete the NTFS partition. Fdisk sees it but no option will allow me to delete it. I attempted to "Ghost" my Win 98 back but it says no because of NTFS. How do I get my harddrive back to a blank unformatted drive.

I use the bootdisks I created with PartitionMagic Pro. I'm not sure if PartitionMagic comes in demo form. If you want, email me at email removed (yes dear moderators, tis I) and I'll send the floppy files.

You need to delete the NON DOS partition (NTFS) then you can format it with Fdisk. No need for Partitions Magic.

Thanks
Thanks Darkrav even if you are a banned user. I have Partition Magic Pro but I had never made the recovery disks. Worked great and I have a "Ghost" image of Win 98 back. Now I need to figure out why XP didn't take.
lil Jimmie - I tried every option in fdisk and it would not let me delete that partition. When I tried "Non Dos" it said "This is not a non dos partition. When I tried to delete "extended partition" it said it couldn't because a "logical" partition existed but when I went to delete logical partition, it said none existed. |

all you need to do is pop in your Win98 CD into the drive and then boot the computer with CDROM Support - tell to install and windows98 when asked and also to delete the NTFS partition when asked - that's all -
If you like to create more partitions afterwards then you can do so using P- Magic or even FDISK - hope this helps.. Hpro
