pc roobot?
My pc rebooted during a game. I was in a game called Counter Strike. I played for about 15-20min and I got tired of it and typed in exit which closes the game with out going out of the game to close it and save and all that. When I hit enter after I typed exit it flashed a blue screen and rebooted. I been playing this game on this system and it never done that before. After that it rebooted it self three times all at the same point were the pc starts up. I hit F5 on the 4th reboot to run in safe mode and it was giving a list of commands like it all ways does to start in safe mode but it restarted again. After that it asked if I wanted to run in safe mode or windows and it ran windows just fine but the video drives did not load. I shut down the system and waited 30 sec and turned it on. It ran scandisk and did what ever it had to do after scandisk and ran fine.
Im not sure if it was a heat problem, my cpu temp is 35c idle/using aim and such. The highest I ever seen it get was 40C and that was after I got out of a game of counter strike. There was no error in the error log. |

What operating system are you running? High intensity games like Counter-Strike can create a lot of load on your system. Did you try playing the game again after you got the machine running? If so, did it crash?

Go into system properties> advanced> start up and recovery options and uncheck the option to reboot upon system failure then if the game gives you problems check the event viewer to help trouble shoot the problem and check for updates for the game.

Don't worry too much about it. Bugs in games can do funny things to a PC e.g. freezes, reboots, shutdowns.
Just play normally and see if it happens again. If it's just happening in CS, and no other games or applications, then I would blame CS. Check around some of the CS forums and see if anyone else has been experiencing the same problems with the same version and a similar system to yourself. BTW what brand of Ram and PSU are you using. (Scrub all of that. I've just read your previous two posts. You've had the rebooting problem for some time now. This not limited to CS. You removed the NIC but did you try removing the Roxio CD Creator software? I think you should revive your last post in the Hardware section and continue there. I stiil think you should try another PSU and Ram. Also, I think if this was happening to me, I would wipe the HD and reinstall XP from scratch. That would give a clean software base to start troubleshooting this problem.) Last edited by mike breck; 08-07-2002 at 03:15 PM. |

It's amazing how much of an effect low quality ram can have on your system. I have been using Mushkin and have had little or no problems.

I put 98 on it then upgraded to xp and i had this prob, so i fdisk and just booted from xp cd and installed. When I toke out the netgear card it did not reboot for like 4 days but it does it every so often now and yes I toke out the roxio software.
My error log was getting filled up with shellhardware detection and network problem so i thought it was my nic and i put in a 3 com and no more network errors from the error log but like i said it still reboots now and then. If its my ram, how can I tell? I mean im running now and its fine... (btw its non ecc) if it was bad wont i be getting a bad ram check in post? and i dont have another psu to swap out to test... |

I called about getting some new ram, is there any way I can check to see if the ram has any errors? Like a software program?
