my parents have this system running windows xp and when they go to boot up they get a "disk read error occurred", and then it never boots up. tried messing around in the bios and couldn't figure out what was going on. anyone have any idea how I could get this system to boot up?

Someone else here may know more, but I think you`re got a corrupted boot sector. Also make sure video, sound, memory and so on are all properly seated, and check for loose cables and connections.
