Question Major upgrade and winXP questions

I ordered myself a new motherboard, cpu, ram, and gfx card. Very excited for it all to arrive. In the meantime, I've got two windows XP questions concerning the upgrade.

1) Does the enum trick work with XP? Or is it not needed, or what?

2) I heard that bad things happen when you upgrade your computer with XP. Like Microsoft thinks someone else has the same copy on a different computer, because the hardware is all different but the same key is used. So I have to go through some process with them... Anyway, I want to be prepared for whatever happens there.

So any answers on those things would be great. TIA!

I built a system and used my old copy of win xp and it worked fine... Im pretty sure you can only install xp on a pc so many times befor it sends a red flag to MS.

1) Nope, the enum trick doesn't work with XP.

2) Yes, if you do change enough of your hardware, you will have to call M$. But it is not a "bad" experience; most people have simply called and gotten the required key without any trouble at all.

So if the enum trick doesn't work, is it just not needed, or will I have to reinstall XP?

I upgraded my mobo & cpu, had to call M$ to activate XP because of the hardware change... Just told the gal that I changed out some hardware and she gave me a new number... Pretty painless if you ask me!
